in my mind
struggle & strife
I ain't about to quit
this is my life
debt & dought
this is my life
I know what life's about
thrive & do well
I plant fertile seeds
my love begins to grow
my mind is fertile soil
here on earth I toil
laboring at my task
nobody has to guess
nobody has to ask
at what I have been blessed
the grace of daydreams
these daytime emotions
among the sunlight
fades the colors of everything
a long row to the end I sow
shuck in the fall
plant in the spring
again the sunlight
fades the colors of everything
bring out into the light of day
rules of verse light the way
assurance & protection
in the original spoken word
unpretentious & bright
like in my own way
listen to me say
I'm pickin' & weedin'
out my mind
how does your garden grow?
and your love
does it fade the colors of everything?
I rarely sing
it's just a temporary flash
golden sunbeams
catch a sparkle
as it fades
as it fades
as it fades
everything

Recovery In Mind

is apart of me
it's plain to see
in my condition
all that I lack
the way god made me
mental illness
nothingness
loneliness
a missing piece
something has been lost
living through life's inbetweens
in pieces of poetry
lately I see myself
in the sound collages
I made years ago
how to listen
to hear clear
the reality of me
instru-mentals
dulcimer music
to share with the world
for all to see
take this trip with me
easy & free-form
I'm busy being born
I'm not trying to get back
I know what I lack
it's living in the moment
living for today
I do know how
to live in the now
each day is a precious chance
to make it better
to show the world I've changed
deep within my center
I have a well of infinite love
through the mirrors of my hands
vibrations of love
I behave and think in a loving way
to all other people & to myself
I am a kind person
I am thinking about you
I know all the things I've been missing
because,I didn't take the time to listen
today it's time
to keep recovery in mind
I find in my mind
beautiful abstract things
that my music brings
take a c.d.
listen to my best
at the recovery fest
maybe you will see
the reality of me

HILL BILLIE BLUES SPEAK Uncle Dave Macon

I am Billie and I live in the hills,
I can whistle and sing like a Whippoorwill,
Come across the mountain, just down in the holler,
To see my little Dony, just as sweet as she can waller.

Chorus: Oh, tell me how long, must I wait?
Lord, I get you now, or Lord I hesitate.

Hello sig, what's the matter with the line,
I can't talk to that girl of mine,
Storm last night blew all the poles down,
I can't talk to my Saro Brown. Chorus

As long as a-bacon is thirty cents a pound,
I'm going to eat a rabbit if I have to run him down,
Ice cream cone, T-bone steak,
You want to win a women get a Cadillac eight. Chorus

I been in the city and I been in the town,
I been in the mountains with the blues falling down,
Jumped in the river and I thought I would drown,
I spied a red-headed woman and I couldn't go down. Chorus

Whiskey, whiskey, I'm going to let you be,
The bone dry law made a Christian out of me,
Going to Oklahoma to marry me a squaw,
I'll have a big chief for a daddy-in-law. Chorus

Got water in the ocean, there's water in the sea,
Since I'm bone dry, its been water for me,
Been on the Southern, the Seaboard too,
It takes a Henry Ford for to shake me and you. Chorus

Oh, me and my partner, we both went to bed,
The jug of white lightning right under my head,
When I woke up the stopper was pulled,
My jug it was empty, but my partner was full.

Temporary Hobo Bard

She hung her pretty head and cried
Just because I can hopped a old freight train
Popped the can, churched keyed the back and
opened it up wide.
Brand new Carhartt overalls, patches in my memories
Work clothes but, work I can't abide
It's the first of may on this hazy winter's day
Go far far way...disappeared...Especially,to all of y'all
Determining mentally upon some action...
Out shakin' hands looking for a place to lay
Drinkin' and stinkin'
All good times I crave
Hand me down my banjo one more time
Way down on old chestnut street
...Jägermeister...
Stagger and stepped, lost my way
Who Threw The Whiskey In The Well
by: Lucky Millinder And His Orchestra
played in the background
She drank and her nose was red as a rose...
Like one of the ghost in Ironweed
Street walkers trot &mingle like company suppose to do
...shuckin' & jivin'...
Playin' for nickels & dimes,it's a hard road.
Playin' by ear beneath the piano
It's better to have a bottle in front of me...
Another hand out,it's effective for a time only
Brother,Sister,Can You Spare A Dime?

Bringing Reality Back Down Into Perspective

state the facts
the facts known to one
you,me & I
I need protection & reassurance
from those things that never happen
I sure do take my medicine
emotionally disabled
a mental cripple
functioning incompetent
a handful of rain
twilight of my life
a terminal period,after full development
always in the twilight of my time here
old before my time
skipping adolescents
missing growing to manhood
a significant consequence
my life is a movement
the part of a composition
exploring a theme
a unifying idea
of what I am supposed to be
passing the work-a-days on the street
I am just like you
I make my own work to do
my poems to protect me
oh dear,here comes the fear
no one can stop me
from feeling free
reading the information
apply my ideas
I can work like this
well into my years
a real thing
comforting the tears
independently existing
among my peers

Love Changes

quality of endearing
warm personal attachment
I know when I am hearing
profound tenderness
the very nature of eternal bliss
to grieve when love is over
love changes but, not like feelings
love changes,to take it away
black & white no gray
without change there would
be not evidence of life
you can't love without pain
pain is not easy
to do what's easy is common
I have uncommon knowledge of love
everyone has felt love
maybe not the motherless child
love can be wild
feelings of affection faced
easily take the place
of self-worth
or self-respect
when you take the time to reflect
on a old love
how you felt back then
living in the past
chasing the old-time feelings
again feelings change
friendship is different than love
friendship is contagious
like a friendly disposition
but,love is deeper
under the surface
can be more than a feeling
when it has been taken away
the loss,the emptiness
stays until we heal
we remember it until long after
the gray october days
and the leaves blowing thru the brain
beautiful how it decays
frost on the pumpkin in the cool air
love changes in many ways

Afternoon Beautyshop Charms

woman's cares
brushes her hair
blow-drys it clean
high-lights,trims & perms
waiting for satisfaction
patience has taught me
my mom's job is hard
making everyone look beautiful
know how to say in a comfortable way
to come across and convey
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
the language she uses
has to be said in a way
honestly and the facts
said with sympathy
beauty-shop talk
walk-ins welcome
I sit and watch
so patiently,teaching me...tolerance
enduring trying circumstances
from a young woman's expectations
of how her hair should look
this is what I will say
when I get home
a meaningful design
of beauty & wonderment
...my poor mother...
has to pretend
try and make amends
weaving & mending
colors for a high-light
step outside into the light
working her afternoon away
fingers to the bone
I sit at the shop alone
waiting to spend time together
I want her to know I know
what she goes through
does she know what beauty is anymore
has the many years of doing this job
made her jaded trying to make ends meet
paying the bills, standing on her feet
I love my mom
I know what love is
it's understanding
knowing the truth
I am loving this person who made me
I like the thought of that
shows me where I'm at
how far and how much I have grown
I mean so much to her
I won't let her down
lonesome hopeless feelings
may abound,she wants me around
when these feelings slip and drop down
my mom is my best friend
and she is a real friend
unconditionally
her love sets me free
she promised to love me
her love sets me free
I try and make it easy to love me
her love sets me free

Jelly Roll Morton

I Am A Good Person

I am a listener
I use my senses
pay attention for a sound
wait attentively to hear clear
because,I care about you
what you have to say
convey your feelings
I am a listener
it's part of what makes me a good person
well-behaved
I am a listener

Recovery In Mind- My Original Spoken Word Poetry

Serendipity of Mental Illness

nothing is so healing as the human touch
even the strongest men are always alone
the emptiness is all in your mind
the space between succession of sensation
I'm not so naive in my thoughts of self destruction
conscious of my existence has touched my soul
I'm surprised to find all that is beautiful in my mind
expression is the meaning of art
refreshing my hope with this art of the mix
I have a disease,incorrectly functioning,without peace of mind
my soul needs the touch, squeezed until it shines
out shine the rain, break free and not easy to be broken
every little soul must shine along,along,soul-shine along
caress in a kiss all the loving that you miss
suffering and in need,my heart does bleed
it's the darkest before the dawn
taint long fo' daylight
yes,the light of day, features of colors, the light in her eyes
I find hope in the serendipity of my mental illness
the way god made me and all the blessings the maker intended
I can't blame or put fault in the great creator, originator of all of this
all of this life, makes me take it slow,I have to wonder why all these challenges
I won't regret all that life has taught me
about what is sadness
about what is beautiful
I lived through all the tears
loneliness and pain
I stayed and faced it
with all the fear and pride in my heart
I am destined to fail
each day I try and try again
I just don't want to make the same mistakes
misunderstand and have to do this all over again
my love has been revealed
I don't pretend not to know
what I'm supposed to be
have mercy on the lonely
be compassionate when you read my heavy heart
my poetry is all I got...

The Artist Among The Flowers(For Daniel Johnston)

all the lonely people
you mean so much
i find it in meaning
I've learned about friendship
I too have mental illness
make room for the ghosts
I've never been a vampire
but,i've seen the devil...
walking around town

no two flowers are alike
freedom in life
are the things found
found art
like in a mixtape
mixed tape = love
Daniel Johnston
sings & plays,
makes my kind of
folk art
a still life
quiet photograph
things measured in time

some things stick
in my brain
time comes and goes
some things last...
familiar mind
sincere friendliness
a sincere friend
in my troubled
daytime moments
ain't no sunshine
it burns a whole
in my mind
trying to make sense
outta that
the boob tube
of bliss
there is more to life
than this...

show me the truth
watching the world
through a computer screen
I write my poems
listening to you
you make me happy
I like being happy
tomorrow's look so bright
on the morrow
love will see me through
bright as ever
thank you
**Smile**

Disability In Mind(78's & Dreams)

press rewind back in time
it is time an open theme
it is space of inbetweens
my memories and dreams
it is a dream theme of sorts
through the days & nights
nfl channel,games & sports
disability is the purpose of my poetry
collecting 10 inch 78's
being apart of an on-line community
music is apart of me
20's,30's,40's & 50's
a forgotten oblong song
escapes their elongated memories
now it's transmitted to my mind
to my collection
to my perspective
to hold in my hand
a visible scene
old town,victor,columbia & king
to name a few labels
of my inscribed 78 dreams
I make the past live again
this music stirrs from within
me and helps write poetry
written & then spoken
in my time with a disabilty in mind
how I fill up my days
to make up me
my cares & wants
there is not much difference
between the man I am
and the man I want to be
so I am happy
happiness is a fading sunset
on a warm summer's day
but,I will live for today
life is for the living
not fade away
life is for the living
I am living for today

Paul Simon- The Sound Of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"

The Rolling Stones- Coming Down Again

(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Coming down again, coming down again
Coming down again, coming down again

Share your thoughts, there's nothing you can hide
She was dying to survive
I was caught, oh, taken for a ride
She was showing no surprise

Coming down again, coming down again
Where are all my friends, coming down again

Coming down again, coming down again
On the ground again, coming down again

Slipped my tongue in someone else's pie
Tasting better ev'ry time
She turned green and tried to make me cry
Being hungry it ain't no crime

Coming down again, coming down again
All my time's been spent, coming down again

Starbucks : To Make Known

I am kind
I am loving
I am caring
you don't know how I
feel or think
you just know what I drink
get the HWC ready when you see me
because,I'm trying to wake up
start my day
I'm busy being free
maybe you should try
and get to know me
I am worth knowing
you don't have to laugh
at my jokes or me
just show me some decency
and I'll do the same to you
and nobody will get taken for granted
I will see it through
it's not to much to ask
I know you are working at your task
put yourself in my position
I am a stranger to you
you are serving me my drink
and I appreciate all that you do
please, don't give me the starbucks blues
I enjoy sitting and sipping
my morning wake up
nothing like it but
nobody has to guess
I'm all alone and blessed
with the money to buy a drink
I like to start my day this way
and in the afternoon
I pay 2 dollars and a nickle
so little african kids can have clean water
it really makes you think about helping the world
with clean water to drink
I drink coffee in the morning
water until late at night
I have a steady thirst
having nothing to drink is the worst
I am writing this to show I am thinking about you
my poetry is apart of me and everything I do

Breaking The Constraints of a Individual

use your speech to convey
what your heart says to you
in a ordinary way
oh,to communicate
oh,to make known
I am learning everyday
through listening to my heart
I've shone to myself how I have grown
with these delicate hours alone
I've been blessed with the grace to think
about what is best for myself
carefully I thought about all that I got
to give in my friendly way
I'm not living for anyone
I'm living for today
I have my own special way
to succeed,prosper & grow
meeting my needs
I am an individual
I'm not like everyone else
that's all I need to know
distinguished from a group
I don't separate because,
that makes me vulnerable
it's in these good common things
human things
I share with others
friendships are very contagious
transmitted to courage
human things
doing right to make better
the common good for all
I do know how people are
disappointing,to do what's easy,lazy
I have courage,to solve problems
I can always work to make myself
a better person, some one to believe in
not so much as a leader
but,get beyond the constraints of a individual
limitation or restriction
to make myself useful
so god can use me
I can help others
I feel others need me
I am a tool
for fixing
I am here if you need me
ready to serve
to be apart
to give back
something to show for
how I live

One Too Many Mornings- Bob Dylan

Down the street the dogs are barkin’
And the day is a-gettin’ dark
As the night comes in a-fallin’
The dogs’ll lose their bark
An’ the silent night will shatter
From the sounds inside my mind
For I’m one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind

From the crossroads of my doorstep
My eyes they start to fade
As I turn my head back to the room
Where my love and I have laid
An’ I gaze back to the street
The sidewalk and the sign
And I’m one too many mornings
An’ a thousand miles behind

It’s a restless hungry feeling
That don’t mean no one no good
When ev’rything I’m a-sayin’
You can say it just as good.
You’re right from your side
I’m right from mine
We’re both just one too many mornings
An’ a thousand miles behind

Although,I don't play my dulcimer anymore this "music" is alive in my heart.Amateur musician is all I ever will be because,I didn't study-up on how to play the dulcimer.I do feel this shows a side of me that may be lost in the years since I use to play. This is all my best tunes.I went under three different names.Now-a-days I just do spoken word poetry and somehow this has filled the space the way the dulcimer music use to.I hope all of y'all will get to check out the reality of me and my dulcimer playing.Enjoy!

Exclusion of All Else

keeping it together
feeling and living better
beats the worst
vulnerable to criticism
why should I care?
what makes you so important?
are you perfect in every way?
I don't like being left out
the last to know what's goin' on
to be nothing more than
what I own
a confused mr. jones
all alone in my new home
uneasiness of mind
anxiety I try to control
I don't get a break from
my fears and wants for more
so alone
with myself
no lovers
so alone

Daily Change of Mind & Spirit

walking,talking
mimicking the lyrics
with my mouth to myself
hummin' the old tune
Heart of Saturday Night
the Tom Waits gem
of a song,thinking,longing
to reminisce about the bliss
of saturday night
of doing what has never been done
on so many saturday's that have come
that Waits has got something there
the way he gets to
the heart of a common feeling
feeling we all may know
emotions move from saturday night
into sunday morning
describing in a plain way things
we do to get through these days
how we live with the moments
instances the feelings arise
putting a finger on a feeling
in song does belong to the craftsman
that Wait's is
I follow it up with
Saving All My Love For You
joining these songs
makes for part of a story
a piece to a tale
I am telling
not normally
associated with one another
collage of sorts

see you when your troubles
are like mine and to myself
deep as the day is long
start fresh in a new way
in a song,we begin
drifting on the wind
a two song tale
about how I wish you well
eligance of a indian wale
see you when your troubles
are like mine and to myself
I believe in me
not the same as
last night and this morning
daily change
reframe and grow
I hope so
morning rain and dew
a dream we dreamed
yesterday's direction
yes,together we dreamed
ego ticking at the Dead Show
other eyes on other days
many worlds I have come
worlds ago now
love will still see me through
the same way I saw through you
way back then when we were children
it's a short time to be here
a memory ago to be there
I don't think about it much
or stop and stare into your eyes
we all have changed
some better and some for worse
but,somehow stayed the same
I'm the only me
you are the only you
this world will ever know
our experience is apart of
how we grow

she waited for me down in the alley
in a few minutes we were out on the corner
the hassel or the hussle and a crazy scam
deliverence from the honest work-a-day's
all hopes of coppin' dope are gone
my man's packed up the goods
confessions written in that grey dust
it's a sad and beautiful world
plain as day and for a song
I hear you say you don't belong
to this or that, her or him,it's a different drum
and a beat lazy clap of the snap
drive out the evil spirits
with hands, palms & fingers
soul clap,rhythm snap
accent pattern very apt pulses
music: anything but
dumb on the drum & accordeon
send you off to bed for evermore
henceforth and back to the heart
searching for saturday night
it always rains on me
everywhere I go
everywhere I go
everywhere I go

Green Brothers Xylophone Orchestra

He recorded thousands of pieces, before leaving the music scene shortly after the death of his older bother Joe Green (1892-1939) due to complications from an operation. He lived in Woodstock, NY, working as a full-time cartoonist, until his own death in 1970.

While I couldn't find any samples of his drawings online, I sure did like this old timey 1919 jazz piece he composed titled "Fluffy Ruffles." Here, he plays his signature xylophone with Wheeler Wadsworth (sax) and Victor Arden (piano). Together, they were the All Star Trio.
