The Art of Caring

some people don't know how to listen
to hear with clarity
something they may be missing
some people don't know about what it means to be alive
each day a precious chance to get it right
continue to live and survive
some people don't know how to be alone
they are afraid of themselves
when they get out on their own
some people don't understand poetry
exciting pleasure by beauty with the imagination
when I read it to them they don't know it's apart of me
some people don't know who are their friends
hanging out,smiles &IOU's
not understanding the oneness and some friendships end
some people don't understand the different types of love
what are you getting, what are you giving, some love can be unkind
I know how it feels to be unloved,we were born to be loved
some people don't know what it feels like to be free
without a purpose we may not agree,it's when you are feeling good
about yourself and you & me
I wish there was more universal truths
saying some people is like pointing fingers
I pay attention to how I am living
it's easy to see everyone is not like me

Poetry Defined

Poetry: the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.

Beyond The Blues- Peter Case

Old man on the corner, singin' my life
Playin' guitar with a rusty old knife
And every line that he's singin' rhymes with the truth
And a promise of something, beyond the blues

You and me, darling, took the long way around
Through the wide open countries and the heart attack towns
To every fork in the road, where we've all got to choose
Between darkness and light out beyond the blues

Beyond the shadows, beyond the rain
Beyond the darkness and all the pain
When you're walkin' in circles with holes in your shoes
Love is the road that leads beyond the blues

Old man on the corner, he's been gone for years
And the guitar and the knife blade are rusty with tears
But there's a song that he left us, we'll never lose
That love is the road that leads beyond the blues

Sitting In Therapy

it relieves tension
talking about my thinking
adjusting the extension of my thoughts
talking,making the connections
how I am feeling,how I am living
some one who is listening and interjecting
some one who is getting what I am giving
talking about my thinking
sitting in therapy
I am feeling so good
some one is listening
all I need to feel
to be understood for real
getting something back
is mostly what I lack
listening to input
concerning the positive
human interaction
to hear clear
and contribute to
things that are true
understanding
knowledge of self
the magic that happens with some one else
now when I listen
in touch with my mental health
I am growing with the spirit of self
yes,the human spirit
powerful
and I've been blessed
I've been so many people
I have to tell the truth
a painter
a loner
a poet
a mix-maker
a loser
a prophet
6 years on this journey
I was really sick
I faced it
I didn't like what I see
plenty of changes about me
time has told me
there are many things to be
I like what I see
me in this light
shone bright in the dark of night
me in this light
now,I can be proud of my change
there are many ways to live
busy being free
talking about my thinking
sitting in therapy
thinking about sitting in therapy
biding my time,enjoying the clarity
lucidity of perception
that is so important
I am starting to recover
I am a sight for sore eyes
I saw the light today
finally feel right today
I have a purpose
out in the light of day
being me
being free
in therapy

The Commonality of Mental Illness

a blessing or a curse
a song or something worse
a formula-charm intended to cause harm
maybe it's fortuitous as the tear in my eye
even with my hollow heart I can still cry
depression and emotional withdrawl
has taught me about inner beauty
perspective and uncommon knowledge
of myself and kindness to all
depression has given me increased sensitivity
the awareness of limitation and the tenderness of love
peace sign and a image of a dove
depression has taught me the meaning of friendship
to have a friend is to be a friend
I know the meaning of life
I am not plain I have struggled through heart ache & pain
I will start with the joy of a passionate heart
I open up freely to my emotions
joy sorrow fear hate & love
I am a good man
I think about you and know how to love
I pay attendtion and listen
in my own conscience that I've been given
I turn my back on greed & hate
I taught myself how to distinctly speak & enunciate
I am both a teacher and student
learning through the experience
living with mental illness
learning to give unto myself
I can be my own best friend
I understand a friend
like a child naive about love
I now understand a love
you can break my stupid heart
I don't put to much into it
I love myself right at the start
I greatly depend on my friends
for giving me the idea of human kindness
I completely understand and won't get let down
you don't need to pick me up
when I'm out in the wind or walking around town
common are the troubles of men and women
confusion and problems are human things
that friendships and relations bring
I have thought about this quite a bit
how average I am with my funny black hat
am I eccentric?
all people are odd
some try to blend in
I don't try
I want to live
live till I die
I want to live
free to just be me
I think that is good sense
to have some dignity

To Have A Friend Is To Be A Friend- Not Looking For Love

Children understand friendship.Friendliness and love are often confused.Friendship is contagious but, love changes and is fickle.Love is a cold and broken Hallelujah. And I don't know a rhyme for Hallelujah.Love is like brush stokes on canvas.Tool marks if you will.So it's easy to track how it was made.I am not looking for love but,a friend to believe in.To share life like children. But,I am not a child.I am a man suffering from need.We always know that feeling when we are not getting what we need. That feeling haunts me so you can see the purpose for my mixing.Songs are the road map to my heart.Enjoy!

Holiday Greetings from Ashland Woods

listen so you can hear it
in your heart find the christmas spirit
give in to share in it,good vibes for the season
open up unleash your inhibitions
feel free and don't hold back
if it's the holiday spirit you lack
merry christmas and happy holidays
this little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
flickering in the winds of change
it's okay to be overwhelmed with the spirit
some people call it:
Reality Distortion Syndrome
for in the spirit we find the power
to present peace to all human beings
people make up the idea of human kindness
only humans are kind in the troubled word
so to make this a world a kind of world
we want to live in
bring on the good will towards men
each one teach one
we are all brothers & sisters of the universe
share in the spirit of human kindess
Holiday Greetings from Ashland Woods
all old acquaintances brought to mind
a sight for sore eyes
"I,I Still Miss Someone"
it's in these spaces those people leave behind
in the days of old ang syne
let's bring in the new
celebrating the good times with the folks we once knew
it all comes down to me and you
the human spirit is powerful
enough so to believe
in written words
poetry & people
think about the poor
when the reality of a picnic
is nothing more
is just a normal fact of life
and every thing don't taste better outside
struggle & strife
a face in the crowd
mixed-up with a broken heart
alone pushing a shopping cart
trying to get lost
packing up to leave town
say goodbye forever to yourself
where god left his shoes
and it's to the ones with the homeless blues
and all your troubles & cares
the world is so big
everyone's got a story
where there is nowhere to sleep
at this time of year is special
outside where there is a white christmas
without a happy ending
so,remember the children who got nothing
and don't get so wrapped up in your family and yourself
understand the christmas spirit
question your faith
you are in the dream that you're living
I'll let you be in my dream
If I can be in your dream
