In the Holloween Spirit

c'mon carve a pumpkin
artistic & gruesome
get out the guts & seeds
eyes & nose are triangles
two teeth and a cackle laugh
I feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away
jack-o-lantern aftermath
a new friend with a mask to play
I remember when being scared was a game
to play,to run away, always at night never in the day
once my little brother dressed up as a punk rocker
I took him trick or treating
I like that memory when my brother needed me
in the holloween spirit
thankfully my mom went to the pumpkin patch
this year I'll be here to hand out candy
now days being alone with time on my hands
daytime feelings are what really scare me
what I could have been if I didn't change
but,I went straight avoided what I call fate
I'm a better man and I don't get spooked
I will take on the holloween spirit
reminding me of my youth
I think this holiday brings on memories
for all when they were young
as I get older not as much I am scared
those things I say,"is that all there is to it"
maybe next year I will smear
butterfly paste across my face
in the holloween spirit
