Ode To Bent Butts & Cigarette Stubs

5 cent to 11 cent jones
look in the gutter
roll 'em bones
for something to smoke
bought a pack
roll 'em bones
got the jones underwraps
a spectacular october day
feels like may
on a large-scale display
fall comes crawling in on it's knees
feel the cool breeze
waiting for fallen leaves
waiting for the changing colors
and mother nature's beautiful decay
I'm happy my jones went away
another day i'll say I quit
searching the ground for
bent butts & cigarette stubs
doesn't make me feel very good
how the people see me
in my neighborhood
I don't want to feel like a bum
and about my health
a poorman's 5 cent jones
in his empty pockets
nothing more than what he owns
where is the dignity in that?
dirty habits have got you flat
broke it ain't no joke
living without a hope
doing things that make you sad
a cigarette makes me glad
you get nothing when you quit
satisfied to fill your lungs with smoke
and you smile all the time
now it's the 11 cent jones
that you feel down to your bones
I wasn't born to smoke
or be in the poorhouse
a pack cost $5 dollars
and it makes me feel bad
to let myself down
because,I'm bigger than that
anyone can smoke
it takes a man to stand up
and say I am quitting for today
I care about my health
I care about myself
do it for me
